What can I do if I am unhappy with the Methodist Church's decision about my claim?

You can appeal the Review Panel’s decision if you disagree with it

Making a claim can bring up a range of emotions. It can be useful to find support to help you during this process. 

You can make your appeal within three months of: 

  • the date the decision was made, or
  • the date their redress offer was made (whichever is the latest one).

To make an appeal, write to the General Secretary:

You may want to have a lawyer represent you in your claim, but it is not essential. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you may be eligible for legal aid. You can learn more about getting a lawyer and other legal adviceopen_in_new.

Provide the following information in your appeal

When you write to them, include:

  • information about any relevant changes in your circumstances since you made your claim
  • an impact statement outlining the effect of the change in circumstances
  • information about what you want from appeal.

You should find out the outcome of the appeal within one month

The General Secretary will decide on your appeal within one month and tell you what they have decided.
