Support with making a claim

The Ministry of Education Sensitive Claims team (MoE Sensitive Claims) can help you:

The Ministry of Education's wellbeing support service

After your claim is confirmed to be eligible for the sensitive claims process you can get support through the Ministry of Education’s wellbeing support service.

Unfortunately, this service is not yet available to people in prison, but if you are in prison, the Ministry of Education Sensitive Claims team (MoE Sensitive Claims) might still be able to help in other ways, contact them for more information.

The wellbeing support service includes:

  • up to six free counselling sessions with the counsellor of your choice (you do not have to use the sessions all at once)
  • support for practical things that can improve your health and wellbeing, for example:
    • tattoo removal
    • literacy support
    • childcare or access to education for your child
    • budget support
    • health care (including mental health)
    • help to rebuild whānau, iwi or hapū connections
    • rongoā Māori
    • support with job seeking.

We also have suggestions for other support options if you want to make a claim.

Support if you are Deaf or hearing-impaired

If you are Deaf or hearing-impaired, the Ministry of Education can arrange for your preferred sign language interpreter to support you through the claims process, or to communicate with you through NZ Relayopen_in_new.

Support for Māori and Pasifika

The Ministry of Education should support you in a way that is respectful of your culture and values.

You can let them know what this means for you. For example, you could ask them to take a tikanga Māori approach when working with you or ask for a Māori or Pasifika member of staff to be assigned to you.
