These are your records, so you can decide what to do with them

When you receive your records, you might:

  • access them right away, or wait until you feel ready
  • get support while you access them (learn what support is available)
  • have a support person read them for you, to you, or with you.

Remember that you can put the records away at any time.

When you learn what is in your records, you have the right to ask for corrections to any information that is not accurate.

Depending on how you feel about your records, you might:

  • store them safely
  • share them (for example, with your whānau, for their knowledge of family history)
  • use them to write your own life story
  • destroy them (for example, by burning or shredding them).
