Why did I receive a lot more information than expected?

There are a few reasons why you might receive a lot of records

There might be more information about you if you were in the guardianship or care of others for a long time, and less information if you were there for a short time.

In general, record-keeping has gotten more consistent with time. The Archives Act 1957 was the first law that required government agencies to keep records, so records from after 1957 are likely to be bigger.

Also, if some or all of your records are stored digitally, they are likely to be bigger. You are also likely to get more digital records as they are easier to find than paper records.

That is why young people who have been in care under Oranga Tamariki are likely to receive more information about them from digital records, than people who were in care of an older welfare agency.
