What information will the court need when I request court records?

They will ask you to provide some personal details 

The court will need these personal details when you make your request: 

  • your name
  • your email address and / or
  • your phone number. 

The court will also want to know why you want access to the records.  
Requesting court records can be difficult and bring up a range of emotions. You may want to seek legal support or find support from support and advocacy groups to help you through this process. 

Include as much information as you can about the case you want court records about 

The more information and details you can include about the case, the easier it will be for the court to locate records from the case.  

Information that can assist the court to find the records could include: 

  • the court reference number for the case, if you know it
  • the locations of the case and court dates
  • what type of case it was (a criminal case, a family case)
  • people who were involved with the case. 

After you have made your request, the court will contact you if they need more information.
