How long will it take Disability Support Services to respond to my request?

They need to respond to your request within 20 working days

Under the Privacy Act they need to respond to your request within 20 working days. If it will take longer than 20 working days to complete your request, they need to tell you why and how much longer it will take them.

DSS or their service provider may also contact you to:

  • let you know they could not find any information
  • ask you further questions to assist them in finding your records.

What might cause delays in providing you with your records

Many things affect how quickly DSS or their service providers can provide you with your records. Sometimes it might take longer because:

  • there are not enough staff available to check the records
  • there are a lot of records to find and check
  • they are waiting on paper files to be sent to them.

If you need your records urgently, let them know and they may be able to try to get your records to you sooner.
