You can choose how you want to receive the information

You can ask to receive your copy of your records as:

  • PDF or Word documents sent to you by email (in some cases Word documents will not be available)
  • printed documents, sent to you by courier
  • PDF or Word documents emailed to a trusted person (for example, your lawyer)
  • printed documents sent to a trusted person
  • downloads from a secure website.

If you need to access your records in another way, ask them if they can provide your records in your preferred way.

How you can receive the records if you are in prison

If you are in prison, you can choose between:

  • receiving your records as paper copies in the post
  • having your records sent to your lawyer, or a whānau member on your behalf.

Your records may be redacted

They may redact (remove or hide) information from your records if it is required by the Privacy Act. Learn more about redactions
