Service providers contracted by DSS will usually hold your records

Disability Support Services (DSS) funds supports and services for disabled people, mainly people under 65 years old. It does this through contracts with organisations (service providers) that provide disability supports and services.

DSS and its service providers may have records about you if you have lived in residential care or have accessed the following supports and services:

  • Home and Community Support Services
  • Supported Living
  • Choices in Community Living
  • Respite

Service providers may not have all your records

Each service provider has different ways of managing records. In some cases, a service provider may not have recorded information related to you as well as they should have. This may be due to:

  • records being held by multiple service providers
  • incomplete or poor record keeping and management.

This means that some of your records may:

  • have wrong, confusing, or incorrect information
  • be missing information.

It can be upsetting to find out that some of your records may be missing information or have not been cared for. Some people have found it good to find support during this process.
