Email Health NZ to make a complaint

To make a complaint, you can contact Health NZ’s Privacy team at hnzprivacy@health.govt.nz.

Making a complaint can bring up a range of emotions. Learn where you can find support.

The types of issues you could complain about include:

  • you have not heard from them 20 working days after you requested your records
  • they refuse to respond to your request unless you complete a form
  • your copy of the records seems to have the wrong information redacted. Learn about redactions.

If there is an error in factual information about you - such as your name, date of birth or ethnicity – you can email Health NZ at hnzprivacy@heath.govt.nz and ask them to correct it for you.

If the correction is about other information in your records, they may invite you to provide a ‘statement of correction’ which they will attach to the relevant record.

A statement of correction is a note where you say what information is incorrect and what it should be.

If you are unhappy with Health NZ’s response to your complaint, you can contact the Privacy Commissioner

The Privacy Commissioner handles complaints about your rights to access and correct your personal information.
